Maggie was just featured in a campaign to raise money for the microfinancing charity, Trickle Up, where she helped design & promote a limited edition $100 necklace.  All proceeds going to the charity, which helps poor people around the globe start microenterprises!  Check out the animated video (voice over), campaign and necklace: www.trickleup.org/seedadream.

This is the World Trade Center premiere, I think.
Okay, maybe I'm just slow, or stupid, or something, but...I had no idea that Maggie & Peter are actually filming a movie TOGETHER for a 2007 release!!!

Check out the link at IMDb:

[ETA: As of April 2007, IMDb has removed this project; it appears instead that Maggie and Peter will be costarring in "HIGH FALLS", with a different plot and different costars!]

Plot Outline ("Small Tragedy"): A cult independent filmmaker directs a production of "Oedipus Rex" in London where none of the cast members know who he is.

Credited cast:
Patricia Clarkson
Tony Goldwyn
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Mary-Louise Parker
Peter Sarsgaard

Maggie Gyllenhaal shows off her new baby bump at Cannes with Peter Sarsgaard.

[The actual caption is a little more indepth, but they spelled Sarsgaard wrong, so...]

I should add that Maggie's film at Cannes, Paris, je t'aime, is getting great reviews, and a lot of positive response at Cannes.

[EDIT: There is a different picture of the two at the same event here.]

Betrothed (and expecting) lovebirds Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal take a sun-dappled stroll in New York's SoHo on Thursday. "They're just the perfect couple," Gyllenhaal's Stranger Than Fiction costar Kristin Chenoweth told PEOPLE.

Maggie has her own section at Go Fug Yourself here. Normally I would be all indignant on Maggie's behalf, but, well... some of the outfits actually are a little...tragic. But as I pretty much love her uncondtionally, I am going to remain impartial.

However. I am not remaining impartial to this: Peter is in the new issue of Vanity Fair. In bondage. There is more info on that over at sarsgaardians, including an icon someone made out of one of the pictures that is... hot.

Even after brightorchid reminded me, I still forgot to set up a tape. I then went out on a date, expecting I'd be home in plenty of time (we went out at 7:30 p.m.). Uh...no. Got home at 12:30 a.m. and was FREAKING OUT 'cos I'd missed 90% of the show. Ah, but my cable system has timeshifting, so I caught it at 1:00 a.m., and it was SO WORTH IT. I especially loved the bit in the hotel room, which got so messed up and was funnier as a result, and the SARS Guard thing (I work in healthcare in Canada, so I had to wear a facemask for an entire summer due to SARS, so that sketch struck me as especially hilarious - I'd never thought of his name in that context!

If you missed it, the transcript from it will soon be posted here: SNL Transcripts. But if you can get your hands on a recorded copy of it (I sadly couldn't record - mine's broken!) or catch a re-run, that'd be better, because A) Peter looked HOT, B) Peter apears in various states of undress, and C) Peter is really bad at not cracking up when things go awry, which is hilarious to watch.

Did everyone else see it??

tusk - You checked off "The Great New Wonderful" as your favourite 2005 Maggie movie, and queer_theory & I were wondering where you saw it! Do you know anything about where it's being played/screened etc.? Or release dates? We're jealous that you saw it, of course. ;)

ETA: It was definitely screened at TriBeCa. Some of you might be interested in some of the hoopla surrounding this film - I've reposted here what I found in the IMDb forums.

The following was posted to nytimes.com/movies forum, and was sent to the TriBeCa Film Festival:

Has anyone taken the time to note this actress' [MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL] appalling remarks at the TriBeCa Film Festival regarding 9/11, following the premiere of her film "The Great New Wonderful"? Here's the direct quote, as reported by NY1.com: [and as seen on WPIX-TV, New York, 4/25/05]

"I think what's good about the movie is that it deals with 9/11 in such a subtle, open, open way that I think it allows it to be more complicated than just 'Oh, look at these poor New Yorkers and how hard it was for them,' because I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way ..." Read more of this postCollapse )

Any thoughts? You might want to read the whole thread at IMDb first, as it contains more info than what I've posted here. But apparently Maggie's remarks have upset A LOT of people. I myself am Canadian, so I'm sure my take on things will be very different than that of an American, but I'm really interested to hear what you guys have to say about Maggie's comments and the film's buzz.

P.S. I thought I should add, too, that Maggie is slated to star in an upcoming Oliver Stone film called "World Trade Center". It's scheduled for release in North America this coming August. That could compound this little drama, don't you think??

So I finally got to see "Happy Endings" - had to wait for the DVD, of course. As usual. *grumbles at the dearth of indie films around here, again* Anyway, despite its mediocre reviews, I actually really enjoyed it. And I don't think I'm being biased when I say that Maggie's role as Jude was the strongest of the film. I really, really enjoyed watching her, even though she made herself quite unlikable at points.

AND! I was surprised to find out that she doesn't only cover two Billy Joel songs in the movie, but she's also the one singing two or three other songs for the soundtrack in different scenes that don't involve her character at all. Who knew??? I'll never listen to "Just The Way You Are" the same way again. (According to the listing at IMDb, Maggie only got the part after Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Garner dropped out. Gah! They would never have done it justice!)

If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend it. It's in most video stores now in New Releases. And you can watch the trailer here, too.

I'm so excited to know that two of my favourite actresses - Maggie and Emma Thompson - are going to be starring in a movie together next year. Okay, granted, it's a Will Ferrell comedy. But still! Maybe it'll be good...? Maggie & Emma will make it so.

Stranger Than Fiction - has anyone read anything more about it than what's up on IMDb? (There probably isn't much yet. But we should keep an eye open!)

ALSO...has anyone here seen Peter's latest, "The Dying Gaul"? (Click the poster to go to the site & watch the trailer, if you haven't seen it...)

It's only out in limited release, and for some stupid reason it's not playing anywhere near me! (I'm in the Toronto area - you'd think I could find it somewhere!) Anyway, if any of you have seen it, we'd love a review.

A screencap of Peter in 'The Dying Gaul'Collapse )

Not his best look, perhaps. Ahem. Anyway, that's me, over & out for tonight.

I know I'm not the only one of us who has already seen "Jarhead" since its opening last night. I thought I would repost a little something I just put in my own LJ, for the purpose of eye candy.

If one can have an orgasm while simply sitting in a theatre, one might say that I could have last night. And I really, really don't usually think Jake Gyllenhaal is hot. But...holy crap. And PETER SARSGAARD. I almost did indecent things in the movie theatre every time he said, "Welcome to the suck."

So there you go. I won't say anything more about the movie, lest there be spoilers, but...I liked it. I'm a fairly discriminating movie critic, so when I saw how bad the reviews were for it, I was ready for a really terrible film. It was nothing of the sort. Some of the criticisms were true - like the fact that nothing ever really happens - but it was a good ride. In my opinion. Ahem.

Thoughts?? More screenshots????
